On Wednesday, July 19, Fishbon Event Lab special forces participated in an all out test of the scientific method as it relates to Mud Wrestling. Everyone assumes that mud is the preferred ingredient in mud wrestling, but is it? That was the question. The result? After multiple rounds of singles, doubles and general melee, the final answer was revealed to be--Chocolate Pudding with Peppermint Flavoring. To reach their empirical conclusion, agents tested Jell-O (nice, but not slippery enough), instant potatoes with food coloring and almond extract (stiff and too much like Play-Dough), pancake mix (very nice but left globby residue on arm hairs), and the eventual winner, chocolate pudding (looked very cool on skin, and tasted excellent). The experiments were messy, but the data collected well worth the clean-up effort. When contestants enter the kiddie pool filled with the winning substance at the sixth anniversary of renowned Santa Barbara cafe Muddy Waters, they'll have the Fishbon Event Lab to thank for their Superior Mud Wrestling Experience.

On Wednesday, July 12, Fishbon Event Lab agents toured the game engine world of Machinima. Beginning with examples of film shorts created in virtual worlds, Second Life, Sims, and others, the crew quickly moved on to real time experiments. Teleporting to the Second Life set of the film Silver Bells and Golden Spurs Alex and Clay's avatars staged a mock gunfight, obstructed justice and interfered with law enforcement officials. The whole sordid scene was captured to a waiting hard disk, ready for editing in Final Cut. Later in the evening, Michael brought out his early 70s Electronic Musical Instrument and thanks to the diligence of a classical musician in the group, it produced sublime, if twisted melodies.
On Friday, July 7, Avatar-attired commandos from the Fishbon Fashion Cell descended on the opening reception of the UCSB Museum of Art's summer show, Pattern Language: Clothing as Communicator. Arriving in groups, the cell eventually grew to 40 full fledged Avatars who socialized with other attendees, danced to beats from the show DJ, and enjoyed provided food and drink. The piece, part of a year-long exploration of the concept of Avatar as a self-created persona, began with hair and makeup at the Pescadrome. Andrea brought 10 pieces from her LA studio to outfit Santa Barbara models, Josianne created more than 20 original airbrush makeup looks, and Vanessa did special hair creations. After the opening, Fashion Cell Avatars and invited guests from UCSB returned to the Pescadrome for an afterparty with tracks from Mouse and Sam, projections of footage from the opening, virtual world avatars in Second Life and a live SL feed.

On Wednesday, June 28, Fishbon Event Lab commandos were treated to a demo of Emerging Broadcast Trends and Technologies from the New York Promax BDA show. Later in the evening, agents hijacked NASA scientist Steve Corbett for a fascinating tour of the Birth, Life, and Death of Stars observed through the world's most sophisticated telescopes.
