Fire Snakes in the Streets, Audio Distortion and Twisted Lifestyles

The Fire Snake prototype hit the streets of the Funk Zone on Wednesday night distracting onlookers as it undulated in the ocean mist. Four more in different sizes (6-10 feet) will be added in the next few weeks (stay tuned). The highlight of the second part of the evening was a Fishbon Event Lab experiment in sound distortion. Alan brought guitar effects boxes and a microphone to process voice inputs. The result was strange harmonics, distortions, lyrical moments, dangerously disruptive loops and other typical Event Lab excitement. By far the highlight of the evening was a demo of Alan's twenty-five year old Digitalker instrument--especially when it was run through the effects boxes. Loops of "danger," "help me" and "Stop!" and lots more reverberated, echoed and harmonized through the attached speaker. After the dust cleared, the Lifestyle Theater and its twisted residents moved closer to their official unveiling in a proposed Fisbon Event Lab Show in late spring.

Highlight of the audio portion of the evening was Alan's vintage Digitalker instrument. Each button activates a word in a digitized voice. "Help", "Stop" and "Danger" were favorites.

Event Lab Field Maneuvers

On March 4, the Fishbon Event Lab descended on West Hollywood for the opening of Burning Man band favorite The Mutaytor's new storyline show, "Los Angeles Underground" at the Key Club. The evening opened with high energy San Francisco Brazilian band, Bat Makumba. Mutaytor's show featured aerial, special effects, and insanity wrapped in a earthquake storyline. Before the show, we checked out openings at the Forum and Blum Galleries.

Snakes, Computer Repair & The Lifestyle Theater

The Event Lab has always been interested in appliance modification and Wednesday was no exception. A donated PC was quickly dismantled with no concern for its future. The keyboard was stripped to the touch membranes, keys harvested for future fun and the monitor modified with a ball peen hammer. But the hard drive presented the greatest challenge with a high speed dremmel tool and diamond grinder required. After the PC had been reduced to rubble, the team returned to the fire snakes project. Michael installed new flexible tubing, Dominique added surreal paint and striping and after the hair on Clay's hand was singed, the reptile flew. As usual, the late night project was the Lifestyle Theater from the Hell Box series.
