Fishbon Wildebeasts Myths and Artists' Protest

On Wednesday, March 5th, Fishbon Event Lab operatives were briefed about the underlying myths and rituals that the upcoming Fishbon Wildebeasts event are based on. Jenessa told the Greek Myth of Persephone and discussed the notion of myth as metaphor for seasonal energies. Earlier in the evening, Jill and Ethan showed two films about veteran reactions to the Iraq war and an upcoming Artists' March for Peace.

Gags, Micorwave Fun and the Volcano

On Wednesday, February 27th, special Fishbon Event Lab agents participated in a hands-on Microwave Stuntfest with an impressive menu of things not to put into your microwave oven. Agents also were treated to Larry's film Everyday Humor, which demonstrated familiar pranks, and Austin's secret Infrared Signal Light. To cap off the evening, the Volcano was creat ed from plaster and water and a secret foamy ingredient pumped out of it inner core. Naturally, none of the above activities were authorized.

Media, Software and Music

On Wednesday, February 20th, Fishbon Event Lab operatives were treated to a special tour-de-force from two members of UCSB's Media Arts and Technology program and a visiting Austrian artist. To begin the evening, Michael, an artist and designer from Vienna showed a sampling of amazing recent interactive projects and short films he worked on with his partner. Next, Wes showed the results of custom graphics and audio software he's working on with fellow Ph.D candidate Graham. Finally, August performed several original acoustic pieces.

Quasar at Sci-Arc

On Wednesday, February 13, undercover Fishbon Event Lab operatives were briefed by Mark David on the making of the amazing Quasar Exhibition at the Sci-Arc Gallery in Los Angeles. The team of artists, architects and engineers worked for several months to create the interactive project that tracked solar events and mapped them in 3-D space with participant interactions to alter the visual and audio effect.

Next Big Thing

On Wednesday, February 6th, Fishbon Event Lab operatives gathered for an update on the latest Fishbon Mainstage Event to be held at the Pescadrome May 2nd and 3rd. Based on the traditional Beltane and Carnival, the event will incorporate a cabaret production bases on the tale of Beauty and the Beast with dance, live musical performance and aerial, along with the usual music, cool environments. This is the fifth major production to be offered at the Fishbon facility. Stay tuned for details.

Fishtronics 101

On Saturday, February 2nd, Fishbon Event Lab operatives gathered at the Fishbon Pescadrome for an Electronics Primer taught by Alan with help from Dan. The first session covered basic electricity, circuits and included hands on projects with LEDs (light emitting diodes), switches, and potentiometers. At the end of the session all participants successfully built simple controllers that switched LEDs between several intensities with the two devices.

Aerial Dance and Parkour

On Wednesday, January 31 Fishbon Event Lab operatives descended on the Pescadrome for a special evening of Aerial Madness. Dominique reviewed the history and current state of the Parkour World with a series of videos showing international luminaries practicing the amazing art. Nicholas then showed clips of local Parkour-istes flying through Santa Barbara and Mammoth, and took questions from interested Fishboners. Following the Parkour segment, Dominique presented clips from early and more recent Aerial Dance pieces and described the "aerial grid" planned for the Fishbon Pescadrome.

Juggle Mania and Cell Talks

On Wednesday, January 23rd, Fishbon Event Lab operatives witnessed the Lab debut of Austin's Juggling Extravaganza. Beginning with a video of his amazing 7 ball feat, he went on demonstrate basic ball types and techniques before opening the floor to future agent jugglers. Later in the evening, Fishbon Cell leaders reported on events and progress. Ronit talked about the Dance Cell, Ethan demonstrated Martial Arts Cell form. Clay discussed the Performance Cell. Then Alex talked about the Hack Sabbath Cell and Jeff introduced the new Meditation Cell. Signups and other madness followed.

Political Science

On Wednesday, January 16th, Fishbon Event Lab agents attended a briefing by Alan on the state of Physiological Metrics used by political campaigns to predict how voters will react to campaign messages. Invited by a political consulting group to monitor a selected group of New Hampshire voters as they viewed campaign messages by presidential candidates, the Biopac equipment confirmed that voter reactions tended to be visceral and instantaneous. Following the presentation, Alan attached the same electrodes to Dominique and others to demonstrate how "gut" reactions influenced opinion, sometimes reflecting views that are not revealed in polls and interviews because they are not conscious.

Goodbye to Renee

On Friday, January 4th, Fishbon Event Lab agents gathered at the Fishbon Pescadrome to say farewell to the forever multifaceted Renee who has relocated to New York City. The event was a mad melange of middle eastern music and dance solo performance, dance sets and other craziness. She promised to return and unless she wants agents dispatched to fetch her, she'll visit the Pescadrome often.
