Utopian Worlds

In attempt to put the frustrations of global chaos and disarray behind them, Fishbon Event Lab operatives decided to take matters into their own hands. With action figures, lego blocks, dolls and art materials available agents gathered at the Fishbon Pescadrome on Wednesday, April 18th to begin the world anew with a sparkling Utopia. Naturally, things began to unravel almost immediately as body parts were swapped, mixed with building materials and otherwise devolved into a dangerous mix suitable mostly for dinosaurs and hardier creatures. Mountains made of foam and cardboard, paint spilled on the ground board hardly improved the aesthetics. Nonetheless, optimism was rampant and, of course, probably unwarranted.

Multi-Modal Music, Mystique Video and Trance

On Wednesday, April 11, Fishbon Event Lab operatives gathered for a special musical event. Dan and Lance from UCSB's Media Arts and Technology program demonstrated their amazing interactive Multi-Modal Music Stand (MMMS) based on the Theremin. Using four Theremin "antennas" and custom electronics and software, one or more players can literally play the MMMS without touching it. By waving hands, feet, dogs..anything with mass in the field between antennas they can switch between four notes and their harmonics to produce beautifully rich sonic textures. For the visually inclined, the instrument also generates very cool graphics in real time, too. Later in the evening, Larry showed his Fishbon Mystique Video and Corinna and Alan gave agents a preview of their improved Trace Dripper the night before its first road trip to Milwaukee.

Fashion/Soft

On Wednesday, April 4, Fishbon Event Lab operatives were treated to a supreme left brain/right brain information fiesta. To begin the evening, Ulrike showed images and video from her recent foray to the AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) Body Language conference which focused on the synergy between Graphic Design and Fashion. She showed cool web and window design for Issey Miyake, Surface-to-Air, Staple Design and other New York area firms. Later in the evening, August and Alex from UCSB's Media Arts and Technology program talked about Open Source Software and the wide variety of editing, graphics, animation and general purpose software available for free download.

Remembering Mystique

On Wednesday, March 28, special agents from Fishbon Event Lab gathered in the Fishbon Pescadrome for a special Fishbon Mystique debriefing. There were photos galore, Ethan's excellent video footage of the Persephone Dance Drama, remembrances and much more. Later in the evening, Corinna demonstrated a very cool Healing Technique that involved flame, glass cups and Josh as willing victim (started out that way, at least).
